Workshop #39: BUDGET SAVER ALERT- My Top 5 Ceremony “Skips”

Jan. 25, 2025

Need to do some budget trimming, but not sure of what could be cut from your ceremony expenses, that guests won’t miss?

  1. Aisle Decor: while it looks beautiful, decorating the aisle with potted florals, decorative displays, candles, etc. is not necessary. Pre-ceremony, guests that do not enter the seating rows from the outside aisles may also trip and knock them over (water spillage, ruined arrangement, guest injury).
  2. Welcome Signage: trendy and pretty, but also an expense that isn’t necessary if your budget needs to be trimmed. Your guests know who they are there to see and can be verbally welcomed by you and your new spouse (for free) at the reception.
  3. Ring Bearer Pillow: yes, if you have a young ring bearer, it’s a good idea to place something in their hands to avoid nose picking as they walk down the aisle. Since I NEVER recommend allowing the ring bearer to carry the actual rings (dummy rings only), the pillow isn’t necessary. Flower girls he can hold hands with? A wagon with a younger participant that they can pull (or ride in)? Simple DIY “here comes the bride” sign? All great alternatives.
  4. Paper/Plastic/Lightweight Fabric Aisle Runners: while some venues may require a runner if your flower girl is tossing real petals, I avoid these at all costs. Shoes with pointy heels poke holes in them (usually before the bride makes her entrance), and unless secured to the floor/ground all the way down the aisle, they may bunch up under dresses with trains. Outdoor ceremony? These babies blow away with the slightest wind.
  5. Ceremony Programs: there are some ADORABLE ideas for programs out there, but I can very honestly tell you that guests glance at them for less than 1 minute (if at all). Utilizing your wedding website to share this info is a FREE alternative.
