Working on your budget and trying to determine how much you’re willing to spend on your wedding dress? Be sure to include the costs below (if they apply to you), in your calculations!
- Alterations: cost will vary based on number of layers and type of fabric. If you have a specific dress style in mind, take a photo to your seamstress and ask if they can give you a rough estimate of alteration costs.
- Undergarments: will the shape and neckline of your dress require you to buy something you don’t already own?
- Shoes: unless you are going to walk around with your dress hiked up, your shoes will rarely be seen. If the budget is tight- this is a great place to trim it.
- Jewelry: another budget saver! If the budget is tight, ask mom/grandma/sister/aunt/friend if they have anything that may work for your “something borrowed”.
- Having your dress steamed before the wedding: while this isn’t a necessity, I always recommend it. Creases, in satin dresses especially, stick out like sore thumbs in the wedding photos you paid a lot of money for.
- Having your dress dry-cleaned after the wedding: especially if you plan to sell your dress after the wedding or want it preserved.
