Let’s chat about the phrase “budget”. I mentioned in workshop #4 that budget can be defined in two ways. It may mean the total amount you have to work with, financially. Or, it may mean that funds are tight and cost effective decisions are going to be key.
No matter the size of your budget, once you have determined that magic number, my next recommendation is to identify the top 3 most important aspects of your wedding that you’re willing to give more of your budget to.
Your top 3 are 10000% based on you and your fiancés preferences. It is absolutely okay if bigger ticket items such as catering just aren’t as important to you as the photos that will last you a lifetime. It’s absolutely okay if you’d rather throw down the cash for an open bar with liquor, but don’t care as much about having a dress from a bridal salon.
Identifying your “must haves” doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to spend more on those vendors/items than everything else, it just means you’re willing to spend a bit more to get what you want, while trimming the budget on less important wedding needs. A bit of a “rob Peter to pay Paul” situation. The overall budget stays the same, you’re just moving funds around to ensure that you can afford the most important “must haves” on your list.
