Workshop #8: Don’t Snooze & Lose on these Vendors

Sep. 22, 2024

Have your heart set on a specific photographer because you love their style? Been dreaming of a specific venue since the day you realized your partner was “the one”? Don’t. Wait.

When selecting your vendors, take into consideration that some vendors can take on several weddings in one day (florists, bakers, rental companies, most caterers). Others will not book any additional business on your date once your booking is confirmed. Venues and “One Man Show” (OMS) vendors close their books after one booking per date. After booking your venue, I always recommend knocking out the OMS’s:

  • Photographers & Videographers: Since their day is 8-10 (or more hours) per wedding, photographers & videographers are one-and-done when it comes to dates that are open on their calendar. If there is a specific photographer or videographer you want capturing your big day, book sooner than later.
  • DJ or Band: While many entertainment companies employ several DJs, if there is a specific DJ that you know can keep a dance floor packed all night, book them early.
  • Hair & Makeup: Depending on the number in your bridal party and how early/late you need to be photo or ceremony ready (plus factoring in their drive time), many hair and makeup artists can only accommodate one wedding per day. Get that deposit paid and contract signed, to ensure it’s YOU that they are beautifying on your wedding date!
  • Planners and/or Coordinators: We can only be in one place at a time. If you want that place to be your wedding locale, get on our calendar ASAP.

As you inch toward your wedding date without having these vendors secured, having plans B and C may be necessary.
