I promise, there really is a difference between a wedding planner, coordinator, and designer. Can one wear multiple (or all) hats? Absolutely.
Let’s see if these analogies will help clear up the confusion, when you come across a wedding _____ (fill in the blank):
- Planner: Waze and Siri had a baby
- Wedding planners are your guide from the starting point of the process, through wedding day and will be able to answer all your planning related questions. Depending on your contract, they may be present at all vendor meetings, may help with tasks such as addressing invitations or managing RSVP lists, and will be on site on your wedding day. A planner is the most likely to wear multiple (or all 3) hats.
- Day-Of Coordinator: Ninja with a clipboard
- Vendors on time? Check. Wedding party ready for photos? Check. Caterer has Aunt Gertrude’s gluten-free vegan meal set aside? Check. Coordinators are on site on your wedding day to execute the plans you have poured your blood, sweat & tears (plus a boatload of money) into. Virtually all wedding planners include day-of coordination in their planning packages, but coordinators can be hired for just your rehearsal/wedding day, if a start to finish planner is not in the budget.
- Designer: Walking, talking Pinterest board
- A wedding designer is generally hired for décor, aesthetic, and atmosphere design purposes, only. Whether your vision entails a rustic shabby chic aesthetic, or football meets fairy princess with a dash of Harry Potter, this is the person with the eye to make it happen!
